BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington PrairieThunder defenseman Jason Lepine scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Rockford IceHogs to a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Wolves in American Hockey League exhibition action Wednesday night in Rockford.
Lepine, who is with the IceHogs on a tryout contract, scored his first goal on a 5-on-3 power play with a blast from the deep slot three minutes into the third period. His second goal came at the 16:48 mark in the third period. Lepine's assist came in the second period.
"We thought we knew what we were going to do," said Rockford coach Bill Peters said of the impending training camp cuts. "We thought that some guys were maybe going to head out of town, but we have to re-evaluate that after this game. Some guys may have brought themselves some more time."
Lepine, who is in his second season with the PrairieThunder, had his big night for the Chicago Blackhawks' top farm team against Bloomington teammates Jon Booras and Nick Goyens.
Booras and Goyens played for the Wolves before being released Thursday to return to Bloomington for preseason training camp beginning Oct. 5.
