Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington PrairieThunder coach Jarrod Skalde announced Tuesday that veteran forward Don Parsons has been placed on waivers.
"Don has accomplished a great deal in his career and has done a lot for the PrairieThunder organization over the last two years," said Skalde. ""The goal-scoring milestone that he recently set is a great achievement.
"But, at this stage of the season, our team is obviously not where we want to be and I felt it was important to change the complexion of the team," added Skalde about the PrairieThunder's 10-20-1-0 record this year.
Parsons recently became the all-time leading career goal scorer in professional minor league hockey. He was the team leader in goals scored (21) and shots (145) in 30 games this season.
The 39-year-old Parsons also ranked second on the team in scoring with 33 points on 21 goals and 12 assists. He had a minus-14 rating.
Parsons, who is in his 17th year at the professional level, passed Kevin Kerr to become the all-time goal scoring leader on Dec. 20. He now has 682 goals and 626 assists for 1,308 career points to rank 16th all-time.
The Boston native was the team's most valuable player and leading scorer last season with a franchise-record 81 points. He holds the record for goals scored in a game at U.S. Cellular Coliseum with four.
Skalde also announced Tuesday that Jon Booras will replace Parsons as the team captain, while Marty Standish and John Nail have been awarded assistant captain duties.
