
Icehawks Embark on Three Game Road Trip This Week

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks opened the New Year with a bang last week and picked up five of six possible points in the International Hockey League standings.
The red hot Icehawks have not been beaten in regulation in their last five games (4-0-1-0) and are 11-3-1-0 in their last 15 contests. They currently sit one point behind the first place Kalamazoo Wings in the IHL standings.
The Icehawks will look to extend their league high six game road winning streak when they embark on a three game road trip this week. They have not lost on the road since November 27 and currently hold the league's best road record at 11-5-0-0.
The Icehawks kick off the trip in Fort Wayne on Wednesday, before traveling to Muskegon on Friday and Flint on Saturday. Port Huron is 3-3-1-0 in the season series with Fort Wayne and 3-3-0-0 in the season series with Muskegon. They lead the season series with Flint 6-3-0-0 and have won the last five consecutive meetings between the teams.
The Icehawks will get familiar with several of their rivals this month. They meet Fort Wayne a total of five times in January and face Flint four times this month.
A Look Back: The Icehawks scored three goals in the first period on New Year's Eve to skate to a 3-1 win over Bloomington at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The victory was their 11th consecutive win over the PrairieThunder, dating back to last season, and was their sixth straight victory on the road. Kris Vernarsky, Derek Patrosso and Ian Turner all scored in the win.
On Friday, Fort Wayne's Guy Dupuis scored at 4:31 in extra time to give the Komets a 2-1 overtime win over Port Huron. Jeff Zehr scored the Icehawks lone goal. Saturday, the Icehawks scored three goals in both the first and third periods to defeat the Generals 7-3 at McMorran Arena. Jamie Carroll keyed the win with two goals and one assist.
Power Up: The Icehawks were successful on the power play last week, scoring with the man advantage in all three games and finishing the week with four power play goals in a total of ten opportunities. They are now ranked first in the league on the power play both on the road (17-78; 21.8%) and overall (34-157; 21.7%).
Tucker Activated: Right wing Jeremy Tucker is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday after being out since December 6 with an injury. He has 13 points (5g, 8a) in 21 games this season.
Misc Icehawks Notes: Jason Selleke will likely reach at least one career milestone this week. He is just one game shy of 500 in his pro career and two points shy of 300...The Icehawks have averaged just 18.97 penalty minutes per game this season, which is the least of any team in the league...Rookie forward Derek Patrosso has been on a hot streak with seven points (2g, 5a) in his last five contests. He has 17 points (6g, 11a) in 27 games this season and leads the Icehawks rookies in points (17) and goals (6) and shares the lead in assists with Derek Merlini (11).
