PrairieThunder sets record for goals

The Bloomington PrairieThunder scored a franchise-record seven goals Saturday night en route to a 7-2 Western Conference victory over Chicago in United Hockey League action before 3,847 people at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Six different players scored goals as the PrairieThunder won its second game in its last three outings to hike its record to 10-23-2 and move within one point of the Chicago Hounds in the Western Conference standings.

Captain Tyler Rennette scored two goals for Bloomington and also added a pair of assists. Jarad Buorassa, Mike Zbriger and Ryan Gillis also scored multiple points. Bourassa scored three points on a goal and two assists, while Zbriger and Gillis each had two assists.

Brad Thompson gave the PrairieThunder its first goal with 1:13 remaining in the first period off assists from Gillis and Zbriger. Bloomington erupted for three goals in the second period with Tim Schneider scoring his first goal of the season 1:19 into the period. Zbriger had the assist.

Trevor Baker scored the second goal off assists from Bourassa and Rennette five minutes into the period. Rennette added the final goal of the period to give Bloomington a 4-0 lead with 3:20 remaining in the period.

Bloomington scored three straight goals in the third period for a 7-0 cushion. Andrew Lackner had the first goal 4:51 into the period on a power play off assists from Mark Phoenow and B.J. Gaustad.

Bourassa had a power play goal seven minutes later off assists from John Spoltore and Rennette, who added his second goal three minutes later with 5:10 left in the game. Shawn Roed and Gillis had the assists.

The Hounds, whose record dropped to 11-20-1, got its goals from Matt Amado with 2:42 remaining on a power play and Tim Plett with 1:52 left. Goalie Jeff Reyneart earned his sixth victory of the season by saving 36 of 38 shots. The PrairieThunder owned a 41-38 advantage in shots on goal.
