
PrairieThunder falls to Port Huron

Port Huron hit the Bloomington PrairieThunder with three power play goals in the third period to register a 4-0 International Hockey League victory Friday night before 3,211 people at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The loss dropped the PrairieThunder's record to 5-8-0-0 (10 points) while Port Huron moved to 8-8-0-0 (16 points). The two teams meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Larry Sterling, making his first start in the net for the IceHawks, stopped 33 shots to record his first victory for the team. Sterling joined the IceHawks earlier this week after starter Marty Magers went on the injured list.
Chris Gehrke gave the IceHawks a 1-0 lead with 3:23 remaining in the second period off an assist from Mike Olynyk.
The IceHawks erupted in the third quarter, starting with Jeff Zehr's power play goal off assists from Brian Felsner and Mark DeSantis at the 14:40 mark. It marked the 10th straight game Felsner has scored a point.
Jaimie Carroll scored the second Port Huron power play goal with assists going to Jeremy Leroux and Kris Vernarsky with 13:32 to go. The other Port Huron goal came from Tab Lardner with 1:37 left in the game. The assists went to Joe Markusen and DeSantis.
Port Huron was successful on 4 of 7 power plays, while Bloomington was shut out on four attempts. Bloomington owned a 33-29 shots on goal advantage.
