BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Scott Fankhouser posted only the second shutout in the three-year history of Bloomington ice hockey to lead the PrairieThunder to a 1-0 victory over Kalamazoo in International Hockey League action before 2,687 people Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The PrairieThunder victory snapped an IHL season-high eight-game winning streak by Kalamazoo. The second victory in as many nights for Bloomington moved its record to 7-9 for 14 points. Kalamazoo dropped to 10-7 and 20 points.
Fankhouser stopped 31 shots and helped kill off eight Kalamazoo power plays. He evened his record at 6-6 with his second straight win in two nights. Over that stretch, Fankhouser has stopped 58 of 59 shots.
Jon Booras scored the game's lone goal on a power play with 6:16 remaining in the first period off assists from Don Parsons and John Nail. The PrairieThunder had 41 shots on net against losing goalie Joel Martin. Bloomington was 1 for 6 on the power play.
The PrairieThunder returns to action Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. game against Port Huron at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
