MOLINE, Ill. - Quad Cities scored three goals in each of the last two periods Sunday to hand the Bloomington PrairieThunder an 8-4 loss at the i wireless Center in International Hockey League action.
The loss snapped a three-game overall and road winning streak for Bloomington and dropped its record to 25-22-2-5 (57 points). The PrairieThunder returns to action Friday with a 7:05 p.m. contest at home against Fort Wayne.
Brandon Marino and Justin White led the Quad Cities' assualt with a pair of goals and two assists each. Patrick Levesque added a goal and two assists.
The PrairieThunder broke on top first with a short-handed goal by Matt McIlvane with 15:30 remaining in the first period off assists by Zac Pearson and Justin Sawyer. Marino then tied the game midway through the period off an assist by Levesque.
Bloomington regained the advantage 24 seconds later on Craig Macdonald's goal with assists to Matthew Spiller and Jamie Carroll. The Mallards tied the game on Juris Stals power play goal with assists to Justin White and Matt Burke with 1:32 left in the period.
Quad Cities broke from the 2-all deadlock after the first period with three straight goals in the second period from Levesque, Chris Lipsett and Marino. But the PrairieThunder came right back with two goals to close the gap to 5-4 entering the third period.
Macdonald scored his second goal with 6:12 left on assists by Jason Lepine and Carroll. Robin Gomez then found the net one minute later on an assist by Matt Frick.
After that it was all Mallards as they ripped off three goals, starting with Jason Price's effort at the 13:51 mark with assists to Levesque and Marino. White tacked on his first of two straight goal two minutes later. He added his second goal with 1:07 remaining on a power play.
Sebastian Dahm started in net for Bloomington before being pulled midway through the second period after stopping 16 of 21 shots and suffered the loss. Kevin Armstrong came in and pushed aside 12 of 15 shots.
Jared Kaufmann was in net for the Mallards to start, but was relieved in the second period after stopping 24 of 28 shots. He was replaced by Kyle Jones, who saved all 12 shots he faced.
