January 14, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
The Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey team, in conjunction with the Illinois Country Music Association and B-104 FM, will stage the second round of the PrairieThunder Country Idol talent contest at Saturday's 7:05 p.m. International Hockey League game against Flint at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
In its first year, the PrairieThunder Country Idol contest tests talents of two country music artists during the first intermission of three games. Mike Porter advanced past Anjanel Folkens in the first round.
Saturday's competition pits Missy Vail against Jordan Carter. Travis Parks faces Stephanie Foster on Feb. 21. The winner advances to the finals March 21.
Competitors in the first event are all country music artists from the Midwest, who have recorded and released CDs, but have not been signed by a professional recording company. The contestants were chosen to compete in this year's contest by their peers from the Illinois Country Music Association.
Contestants are limited to a four-minute performance during the first intermission. Fans will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite performers through the second intermission. The fan vote counts 25 percent and judges vote 75 percent in determining which performer advances in the competition.
In addition to the three semifinalists competing on the final night March 21, the six competitors will perform together in a group number.
The overall winner will receive five hours of recording studio production time, 30 professional marketing packets, a pool table, a PrairieThunder jersey, a two-year membership in the Illinois Country Music Association and two free registration fees in the Illinois Country Music Association.
The event is sponsored by the PrairieThunder, Illinois Country Music Association, B-104, McLean County Country Opry, PrimeTime Country Opry, 2156 East Studios of Springfield, AlphaGraphics and Altman's Billiards and Barstools.
Tickets for all PrairieThunder games can be purchased by calling 309-454-5500; on-line at www.prairiethunderhockey.com or at the Coliseum box office, 101 S. Madison Street, Bloomington between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and on game days.
