New York Power News Release

WILTON, CT – The New York Power shut-out the Boston Breakers 3-0 on a rainy night in Wilton, CT Thursday in their first post season exhibition match and under the new reign of Head Coach Tom Sermanni.

The Sermanni era began with a goal from Power leader Tiffeny Milbrett in the third minute as she took a pass from Tammy Pearman and chipped the ball high over the outstretched hands of the Boston keeper.

Early in the second half, at the 48th minute, Milbrett returned the favor – crossing a ball across the box where Tammy Pearman was there to head the ball home and place the Power up 2-0.

New York then tacked on the final of their tallies in the 59th minute as newcomer Margaret Tietjen, acquired just last week as part of the trade with the San Diego Spirit, assisted with a cross of her own onto the awaiting head of Minna Mustonen to give the Power their 3-0 edge.

Saskia Webber and Nicole Williams combined for the shutout – the Power had not shutout an opponent during all of the 2002 regular season.
