Power Quotes:

Power Head Coach Tom Sermanni: "It's tough to go into specifics about what it is going to take (to make the playoffs) because all that will depend on what kind of team we can put on the field. Tonight was Kristy Whelchel's first run of the season, those last five minutes, and she's clearly not ready to go a full 90 minutes."

"After today, we'll lose two Australians (defender Cheryl Salisbury and midfielder Joey Peters) for two games to their national team. It's tough to deal with those things. But like I say, we have to get focused again to get back on track, and hopefully do the things we do better than we did them today."

"Beem's been kind of a strength for us the last five games, and done exceptionally well," Sermanni says of Beem. "She's done a terrific job setting things up, she's scored, she's been aggressive and strong defensively. I've been really delighted with her."

Power Notes:

Whelchel's Back

Power defender/midfielder Kristy Whelchel saw her first game action of the 2003 season after tearing her ACL earlier this year. Whelchel played the last four minutes of the Washington game.

Short Handed

Australians Cheryl Salisbury and Joey Peters will both miss the Power's next two games, due to National Team duty.

Warning Summary

Both Christie Welsh and Shannon Boxx were on the latest Yellow Card Warning Summary. If either receives a yellow card in the next four games played, they will be suspended for one game due to four non-consecutive yellow cards accumulated.

Home Cooking

When the Power face the Atlanta Beat this week, they will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive. With the win over the CyberRays, on July 5, the Power have now gone four games at home without a loss, a new team record.
