Power Quotes:
New York Head Coach Tom Sermanni - "I thought on the whole, we played superbly. We kept the shape pretty well, I thought we dominated the ball, particularly aerially."
"I thought we should've put the game away when it was 2-nil. We had some really good chances. But a team like Carolina never gives up. They kept coming and coming, and they kept us under pressure. I give them a lot of credit for that."
Sermanni on Carolina's late goal - "The players like to do that to me.. It keeps my blood pressure up."
New York Power Midfielder Shannon Boxx - "My teammates tell me I am unlucky right now, and that the goals will come."
Power Notes:
Milbrett and Pearce Back
Power forward Tiffeny Milbrett and defender Christie Pearce will return to the Power lineup, after missing last week's game against the Carolina Courage due to National Team duty. With her national side, Milbrett scored her 98th goal as the U.S. defeated Brazil, 1-0. It was also a special day for Pearce who was named captain in honor of her 100th cap with the U.S. National Team..
Stopping Mia
The Power defense will have to keep an eye out for Mia Hamm, who has torched the Power in the past. Hamm has recorded seven goals and four assists for a total of 18 points against New York. In the two meeting this year, Hamm has tallied three goals and two assists against the Power.
Defending Early
The Freedom offense will test the Power back line early and often. In this series, Washington has scored six of their 20 goals before the 30-minute mark.. The Power are scoreless in that time frame.
Power Scoring
When Lauren Orlandos was credited with an assist last week against the Carolina Courage, she became the 16th player to record a point for the Power this season. The Power are the only team in the WUSA to have everyone who has made a start this season, record at least one point.
