New York Power News Release
New York, NY - Having played four of their last six games at home, the Power hit the road to play the Carolina Courage on Saturday, July 12. The Power will leave Mitchel Athletic Complex, where they have a four-game unbeaten streak. It will be the third and final meeting between these two teams, and can be seen live on the Metro Channel at 7:00 pm. The last time these two teams met, the Power led 3-1 in the 85th minute before allowing the Courage to score twice late and earn a draw.
After Carolina, the Power will head to Washington to take on the Freedom on July 19 (6:30 p.m. live on MSG). The team will end their three-game road trip with a visit to San Diego to take on the Spirit on July 23 (10 p.m. tape delayed to July 26 on PAX TV).
Upcoming Week: July 12 Power vs. Carolina @ Carolina. Season Series: New York leads 1-0-1. All-time Regular Season Series: New York leads 4-3-1. Top Scorers: New York - Tiffeny Milbrett (8g - 5a = 21pts); Carolina - Birgit Prinz (5g - 3a = 13pts). Power Key Players Out: New York - D Sara Whalen (ACL). Power-Courage Notes: The Power will look to extend their two-game unbeaten streak against the Courage. The Power swept the series in 2001, while Carolina swept the series on their way to the championship in 2002. The Power won the first meeting this year, 3-1, in Carolina. Carolina used two late goals, 86th and 95th minute, to erase a two goal deficit and tie the Power, 3-3, the last time these two teams met.
Key Matchup: New York F Tiffeny Milbrett vs. Carolina D Danielle Slaton: Milbrett has torched the Courage for eight goals and five assists. Slaton, who was the WUSA's first draft pick last season, will look to use her speed and National Team experience to slow down the nifty striker. Milbrett has tallied three goals against Carolina this year.
Power Head Coach Tom Sermanni on Carolina: "Obviously they are a good team, being last year's champions. They have a very potent strike force, and are another good side. Being last year's champs, teams have been playing them keyed up, showing them a lot of respect."

Power Quotes:
New York Head Coach Tom Sermanni - "Today was the most critical game of the season and as we get to the later part of the season, your next games become the most important games you have."
"It was a tough game out there today, and we got a few of the breaks today, but that happens every game - and sometimes you get the breaks and sometimes you don't."
"I am very proud of the way the players hung in there today, and they also got a few breaks as well."
"I think all the players, whether they have been on the starting team regulars, or coming in off the bench have done a tremendous job for us this year."
Jaclyn Raveia on her Goal - "To be honest I have no idea what it hit or where it hit. I just tried to get in the path and try to disrupt the other team...but I'll take it!"
Cheryl Salisbury on her first WUSA Goal - "Its really a credit to Justi, she put the ball exactly where it needed to be, and that more than half the job, then we did the rest of it."
Power Notes:
Winning Record
The Power hold a 4-3-1 record against Carolina. They are the only team that the Power have a winning record against.
Home Cooking
With the win over the CyberRays, last week, the Power have now gone four games at home without a loss, a new team record.
Stopping Prinz
The Power will have to keep an eye out for Prinz. With a goal and an assist in the last meeting, Prinz now has tallied five goals and three assists against New York in only five meetings. Prinz scored the game-tying goal the last time these two teams met, five minutes in stoppage time of the second half..
