(OSHAWA, ON) Durham's team the Oshawa Power stun fans at Budweiser Gardens by handing the London Lightning their first loss of the season 105-101.
The Oshawa Power put a halt to London's record setting 11 game winning streak and the inaugural champions registered their first home loss since last season when this same Power squad defeated them on December 10, 2011.
After being down by seven points in the first quarter, Durham's team battled back and had a very productive second quarter in which they outscored London 32-13 on the strength of 21 first half points by Nick Okorie who finished the game with 38. Jaushay Rockett also had a monstrous double double with 16 points and 16 rebounds and William "Bo" Harris also chipped in with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
When asked about his performance and that of the team Okorie said, "I pretty much played my game and stayed focused, each time we played them, we got a little bit better. We knew that if we kept up our intensity that we could come on to their home court and beat them"
Although they were overpowered in the second, the Lightning were in championship form from the onset of the third quarter and outscored the Power 33-17. The final 12 minutes was a different story as the Power outscored the Lightning by 8 points to seal the victory.
Coach Larry Blunt said, "I'm excited for the win but I'm also happy for the guys in the locker room. They battled hard and didn't give up even when the Lightning threw their best punch."
The Power now get set to host the expansion Montreal Jazz, who they defeated 127- 99 on December 13, 2012. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on December 21, 2012 at the General Motors Centre.
