Mill Rats Claim Third Straight Win

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats presented by Rogers, won their third straight game at Harbour Station on Sunday afternoon against the Moncton Miracles with a final score of 116-91 in front of 1,848 fans.

The Miracles battled hard with the Mill Rats in the first and were able to close the quarter leading by a basket, 20-22.

The second quarter opened by 2 free throws from Mill Rats' Cavell Johnson, which tied the game. The Mill Rats went on a short run and pulled ahead but it was quickly answered by the Miracles. Some clutch shots from Jerice Crouch, Melvin Council and PJ Young enabled the Mill Rats to stay neck in neck, keeping the game tied at the half, 39-39.

Third quarter the Mill Rats came out blazing. A three from Joe Posey was quickly answered by another three form the Miracles' Devin Sweetney. Mill Rats were able to maintain the lead 60-51, halfway through the quarter.

The Mill Rats played a strong third outscoring the Miracles 42-26. It was a huge quarter for new forward Sheray Thomas as he added 12 points alone in the third. Jerice Crouch added 9. The Mill Rats closed the third ahead 16 points, 81-65.

The fourth quarter, the "Joe Posey Show" made an appearance again as he drained 3 three pointers, making it 5 total for him all game. "It's pretty normal for me - that's what I do. I've always been known to make baskets," Posey comments.

Head Coach for the Saint John Mill Rats adds, "Three wins in a row feels great! What a turn around in momentum! I'm excited to see that these players played together especially at a high calibre. As a team, we are starting to gel and learn how to play together. We are limiting turnovers and defending."

Leading scorers for the Mill Rats were Jerice Crouch with 26, Joe Posey with 22 & Sheray Thomas with 17.

The Miracles were led by Devin Sweetney who had 26 points and Tyrone Levett with 18.

The Mill Rats are back in action next weekend with a double header against Moncton on Saturday night at 7pm and the Summerside Storm on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

The Mill Rats rise to 7-7 on the season while the Miracles drop to 8-9.

The Mill Rats had a moment of silence today at their home game for the many people who lost children, family members, teachers, mentors & parents in Connecticut. The Saint John Mill Rats organization expresses their sincere condolences.
