Power Play Powers Jacks To 7-0 Shutout Win

(Odessa, TX) - Five power play goals and Juha Toivonen's 24 saves brought the Jackalopes a 7-0 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Tuesday night at the Ector County Coliseum. Going back to last season's playoffs, it was Toivonen's third consecutive shutout at home.
In the first period all the bounces went in favor of the Jackalopes, who scored three goals off deflected pucks in front of the net. Kenny Bernard scored his first of the season at 5:25 on assists from Phil Plante and Dominic Leveille to make it a 1-0 score. The Jacks took a 2-0 lead when Collin Circelli's shot bounced off a Killer Bee player and past Wylie Rogers. It was Circelli's third of the season at 6:12, Dave Van Drunen and Sebastien Thinel added the assists. Odessa then took a 3-0 lead after Jeff Pierce's shot from the slot skipped off another Bees player and in the net. Thinel and Mike Lesperance had the assists on Pierce's first of the year at 8:52. Odessa led, 3-0, after one period.
The offense continued for the Jackalopes with four second period goals, including three more on the power play. Mike Ramsay, Circelli, Leveille, and Jean Bourbeau all scored for Odessa to give the Jacks a 7-0 lead after two periods of play.
The third period brought a halt to the offense as neither team scored. Juha Toivonen finished the game with 24 saves to earn the shutout in his first action of the season. Lesperance led all skaters with four points in the game (four assists).
The Jackalopes return to the road for a contest against the Amarillo Gorillas on Friday at the Amarillo Civic Center. Game time is 7:05 PM and the action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
