February 3, 2003 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
New York Power News Release

New York, NY - The New York Power will host a weeklong series of events, beginning today, to recognize National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday, February 5, 2003. The day was chartered by the United States Congress in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participation for all girls and women.

The Power players will join thousands of sports educators, coaches, athletic directors, recreation directors, association members, sponsors, students, and parents across the country in support of the day and of this year's theme, "Succeed in Sports, Lead in Life". NGWSD is celebrated in all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies, and activities.

"Our players, team and entire league serve as a reminder of what can be achieved by girls and women who participate in sports," said Power GM Susan Marenoff . "This day helps not only to recognize the progress of what can be achieved on and off the field, but also the work that still lies ahead."
