Pittsburgh Power News Release
Pittsburgh, PA - (February 25, 2011) The Pittsburgh Power, WPCW-TV, and KDKA-FM Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan today announced they have entered into agreements to broadcast game coverage of the newest Arena Football League team. Pittsburgh's CW (WPCW-TV) will broadcast all eight Pittsburgh Power home games beginning with the home-opener on Friday, March 11 (8:00PM), while Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan (KDKA-FM) will carry all 18 regular season games and all playoff contests. Both stations are owned by CBS, and are a part of the company's cluster of six television and radio stations in the Pittsburgh market.
"CBS TV's combination of KDKA and the CW, combined with their live local sports experience presented a tremendous opportunity for the Power," remarked Owner and GM Matt Shaner. "Additionally, Sportsradio 93-7The Fan, in a short time has become the clear undisputed leader for local sports radio in this market," Shaner continued.
"The Pittsburgh area has a great football tradition at all levels and we are confident fans will embrace this new exciting product. We are happy to be able to provide our viewers a front row seat to all the action," said Chris Pike, Vice President and General Manager of KDKA-TV & WPCW
The television broadcast team will include KDKA-TV sportscaster Bob Pompeani. A game analyst will be named at a later date.
Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan's Troy Clardy will call the radio play-by-play, along with analyst Darnell Dinkins, and field reporter Megan Wolfley. Clardy, who serves as the executive producer for Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan, spent eight seasons with the San Jose Saber Cats of the Arena Football League, and called play-by-play action for three of those seasons. Dinkins, who played football and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999, also went on to play professional football in the NFL for nine seasons with 4 different teams, and was a member of the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl team in 2009. Wolfley, daughter of former Pittsburgh Steelers player Craig Wolfley, has been surrounded by football her entire life and worked in sports broadcasting on Steelers TV and Steelers 24/7 since 2003.
"Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan is excited about having Pittsburgh's newest sports franchise air on the radio station," said Michael Young, SVP and Market Manager for CBS RADIO Pittsburgh. "Pittsburgh loves sports, and the high-octane action that the Pittsburgh Power is bringing will certainly please local sports fans."
