New York Power News Release
NEW YORK, NY - New York Power Head Coach Tom Sermanni released his player roster for the 2003 season which is comprised of 16 roster players and three reserves. The Power were granted one extra reserve player due to injuries to Sara Whalen and Kristy Whelchel, each who remain among the 16 roster players but will miss the 2003 campaign. While the nucleus of the team remains, with 11 players returning who appeared for the Power in 2002, nine new players will don the Power uniform for the first time this season.
With a successful 2003 WUSA Draft in which the Power grabbed Long Island native and Penn State standout Christie Welsh in the first round and tenacious defender Lauren Orlandos early in the second round, the Power also added significant strength to their defense with the addition of Shannon Boxx, Maragaret Tietjen and Carly Smolak in a trade with San Diego.
