San Jose CyberRays News Release
SAN JOSE (March 24, 2003) â The San Jose CyberRays today cut their training camp roster, assigning 16 contracted players to the active roster and two more to the reserve roster in advance of the April 5 opening of the WUSA season.
All WUSA teams were required to reduce their rosters to 16 active players plus two reserves as of 2 p.m. PST today. In addition, teams may add up to two developmental players to their rosters by April 1.
The CyberRays began preseason training camp with 14 contracted players and reached the 16-player limit by signing midfielder Betsy Barr, the team's first pick in the February WUSA Draft, and midfielder Ann Cook, who entered camp as a tryout player after being waived by the Washington Freedom. Cook played for the CyberRays in 2001 and was traded to Washington on Dec. 21, 2001 for defender Michelle French.
Named to the reserve roster were tryout players Melinda Carter, a defender who played collegiate soccer at South Carolina, and Maren Hendershot, a forward who played last season with the CyberRays.
