New York Power News Release

Charleston, SC – The New York Power and Carolina Courage played to a scoreless tie Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium in Daniel Island, SC. With the tie, the Power concludes its post-season regimen having gone 1-0-1 which included a 3-0 win against the Breakers on October 10.

The Power, who ranked last in the WUSA in 2002 in goals against, finish the post season with 180 minutes of shutout soccer.

The Power had several quality chances in the second half as they worked the ball in the Carolina end but could not get past WUSA goalkeeper of the Year Kristin Luckenbill. The Power's best chance came in the 83rd minute when Krista Davey beat the Carolina defense to the end line and fed a charging Minna Mustonen at the penalty spot. Luckenbill robbed Mustonen from point blank range to keep the sheet clean on both sides.

Head Coach Tome Sermanni was encouraged with the result and the post season in general, "Its good to get a second look at the players, especially the new players, Boxx, Tietjen and Smolak, it was good to see them in a game, Sermanni added. "Essentially we have accomplished some good things this post season, keeping a clean sheet for 180 minutes is certainly one of them.
