Courage, Power Battle To Scoreless Draw
October 19, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
Carolina Courage News Release
Daniel Island, SC (October 19, 2002) The defending WUSA Champion Carolina Courage and the New York Power played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina.
Both teams were experimenting with new players as part of the off-season tryout period.
"There's a lot of time between now and when the final roster is set," said Courage Head Coach Marcia McDermott. "This is an important part of the process."
The Courage's offensive impotency could be predicted, as the Courage was playing without its primary scoring weapons. Missing tonight's match were forwards Danielle Fotopoulos and Birgit Prinz, Norwegian midfielders Hege Riise and Unni Lehn, as well as U.S. National Team star Danielle Slaton. These notable absentees combined for 35 of the Courage's 40 goals last season.
Saturday's match brought to a close the Courage's two-week off-season camp. Players will reconvene on March 1st to prepare for the 2003 WUSA campaign.
