QUOTES
Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman
(Opening statement...)
"We were fortunate enough to be in a one possession game. A lot of it had to do with [Allie Quigley and Jamierra Faulkner]. They fought, got good looks, got stops, and kept us involved. When you're minus 14 on the boards and give up 16 offensive boards, you have to be doing something special on the other end to keep up, and I credit them for that. But that's not enough. We had the number one team on the east come in here and playing to their strength."
(On the last possession...)
"Allie was really hot, and we wanted to get some hammer action...she gets a hammer screen, and we throw across to her. We didn't execute."
(On preparing for Phoenix...)
"I think it starts with an awareness of yourself, and eliminating a bad half defensively. Being more consistent and holding a team under their average while also playing your pace of basketball. That's not going to be easy. Phoenix is a different type of animal, but I think we have the defensive schemes to do it. We just have to stay married to the schemes and be disciplined for longer periods of time."
Chicago Sky Guard Jamierra Faulkner | 18 points, 5 assists
(On her mindset with the ball in her hands...)
"Tonight [the Liberty] were in attack mode. They fouled us a lot and we got to the free throw line. I thought about getting to the rim and finding my teammates."
(On her attitude moving forward...)
"When I'm out there, just trying to keep leading my team and staying focused; not having those mental lapses."
Chicago Sky Guard Allie Quigley| 29 points, 3 assists
(On having a good shooting night...)
"It just happens, every game is different and I just try to be aggressive when I'm out there."
(On making shot early in the game...)
"When you start hitting [shots] right away it gives you confidence, so I used that tonight."
(On losing multiple tough games in a row...)
"It's really tough, we're learning a lot about ourselves, about each other, [and] we just have to keep trusting each other. If we go separate it's just going to get worse, so we have to keep trusting each other."
New York Liberty Head Coach Bill Laimbeer
(On game plan...)
"Just to compete for 40 minutes. [The Sky] are a solid basketball team. They have a lot of weapons. We are work in progress still; we are still finding our stride. I think if we played for 40 minutes we would have a good chance to win and pull it out."
(On holding Elena Delle Donne to 14 points...)
"Quigley went off on us again. Elena got in foul trouble trying to guard Tina a little bit, hurt her in her minutes play. Quigley picked up the slack, and we had no answer for it."
(On close 4th quarter...)
"We had the game under control, but turned the ball over a couple times in the row which gave them the opportunity to tie the game with a couple minutes to go. Fortunately, we are pretty good at executing when we need to down the stretch and we did and won the game."
New York Liberty Forward Tina Charles | 29 points, 9 rebounds
(On her recent play...)
"I'm just trying to will my team to a win. Just knowing that basically the percentage of the team's success relies on my shoulders, and I welcome that weight. Every night I'm playing for my teammates respect so that's just my mindset going into games, just to be consistent."
(On closing out the game...)
"Just knowing that we've always been in that position. I think six times already this year that we've been in overtime. Being on the road is really hard with the crowd. Allie Quigley made a lot of tough shots...we've been in this position and we always have confidence and we're really poised down the stretch."
(On the Olympics...)
"I'm looking forward to playing with [Elena Delle Donne]. I never have before. I'm looking forward to playing with the rest of my teammates. And just the camaraderie, I think that's the best part. That's the best thing about being on Olympic teams."
New York Liberty Guard Sugar Rodgers| 21 points, 4 rebounds
(On the game plan...)
"Just defend, rebound, share the ball, go out there and have fun."
(On her success in the game...)
"My teammates just found me in the right spots; I knocked down the shots."
