Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers defender Cameron Knowles and goalkeeper Josh Wicks were named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 20. Knowles and Wicks helped Portland record its 14th shutout of the season in a 1-0 road win against Carolina over the weekend.

Both players have been consistent members of the Timbers' defense that leads the league in the fewest goals allowed (18) and shutouts (14).

Wicks, who was the USL First Division Player of the Week in Week 11, leads the league in wins (13), shutouts (13) and is second in goals-against average (0.627). He recorded six saves on six shots faced to hold the Carolina RailHawks scoreless on Sept. 1.

Knowles earned his second USL First Division Team of the Week selection for his defensive efforts against the RailHawks. Knowles has played every minute of the Timbers' regular-season schedule and leads the league in minutes played with 2,430. The first-year defender was also named to the Team of the Week in Week 8.

The Timbers have had a player selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week in nine of the past 10 weeks.

Portland plays its final game of the 2007 regular season on Sunday against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Swangard Stadium; kickoff is set for 4 p.m. A live broadcast of the match will be available at www.portlandtimbers.com.

The Timbers return home for the first round of the 2007 USL First Division playoffs on Sept. 16, at PGE Park at 5 p.m. Tickets start at $12 and are available at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (503) 224-4400.
