Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
"¢ The Winterhawks established a new franchise record with their 17th straight home win with yesterday's 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans, topping the previous mark set in the 1993-94 season. Their next chance to extend the streak comes next Tuesday when they host the Everett Silvertips at 7 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Yesterday's victory moved the Winterhawks just three points behind the Americans for first overall in the WHL.
"¢ Ty Rattie scored his 40th goal of the season last night, which leads not just the WHL but is tops among all players across the 60-team CHL, which includes the Ontario and Quebec leagues. It's the second straight season the Hawks have had a 40-goal scorer after Nino Niederreiter had 41 and Ryan Johansen had 40 last season. If Rattie surpasses Niederreiter's 41 from last season, it will make him the highest-scoring Winterhawk since Josef Balej had 51 goals in the 2001-02 season.
"¢ At the other end of the ice, goaltender Mac Carruth now has 28 wins this season, which is tops in the WHL. With 27 games remaining this season, Carruth is closing in on the franchise record of 35 wins in a season by a Winterhawks goaltender, set by Brent Belecki in the 1997-98 Memorial Cup season. With 73 career wins, Carruth ranks third in team history behind only Belecki (79 wins) and Darrell May, Sr. (105).
Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:
"¢ Fans can meet Winterhawks players Mac Carruth, Taylor Peters, Brendan Leipsic, Marcel Noebels, and Cody Castro tomorrow from 4-6 p.m. at the Hillsboro Les Schwab store at 22235 NW Imbrie Drive. Fans can take pictures, get autographs, talk with the players, and enter to win a Taylor Peters game-used stick from the Minnesota Wild's NHL prospects camp last fall!
