Portland Thorns FC Midfielder Sam Coffey Named June Rookie of the Month, Presented by Ally
June 27, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
CHICAGO - The National Women's Soccer League today announced Portland Thorns FC midfielder Sam Coffey as June's Rookie of the Month, presented by Ally, as voted by the NWSL Media Association.
Drafted in the second round of the 2021 NWSL Draft, Coffey's first career monthly honor comes after the midfielder enjoyed a highly productive month of action that saw her tally her first point of the regular season with an assist in Portland's 2-2 tie against San Diego Wave FC.
A crucial component of a Portland offense that registered a dominant 15-2 goal differential this month, the midfielder also registered six shots and maintained an 85 percent passing accuracy rate throughout June, the highest of any player in the league.
A Sleepy Hollow, New York native, the midfielder was one of 26 players selected to represent the U.S. for an upcoming pair of friendlies against Colombia on June 25 and June 28.
The NWSL Rookie of the Month presented by Ally is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
