Portland Chinooks News Release
The Woodlands, Texas - Revenge was on the mind of the home team Sunday afternoon at John Cooper Gymnasium, but the more experienced Portland Chinooks had different plans. The visitors took over right where they left off less than 24 hours before. Nobody said it was going to be easy, but after all was said and done, the LoneStar Strikers were handed their second defeat in as many nights.
Just like the previous night, it was the Chinooks who led on the scoreboard after the first 12 minutes, 32-22. Little changed in the second period. The margin remained 10 at the break, with Portland ahead 63-53.
The home team Strikers fought back in the 3rd period to take a 90-88 lead. Portland did all they could to hang on in the fourth. Trailing in the finals seconds, who else but Jared Cunningham would rescue the Chinooks. The league's top scorer came through big, driving to the basket and nailing a pull-up for the 113-112 win in what was Portland's closest game of the season. The Chinooks complete the Texas two-step and sweep the season series from the Strikers, winning all three games.
Portland (5-5) leap frogs Salem for 3rd place in the IBL's Continental Conference. They're now 3-3 on the road.
The Chinooks return to town on Monday and find themselves in a familiar spot, winners of two in a row. They look to make a playoff push hosting the Nippon Tornadoes at Eastmoreland on Friday night at 7:00. We invite you to come out as the Chinooks play their final nine regular season games at home before hosting the playoffs.
