Portland Comes Back on Tucson to Split the Series

Tucson, AZ - Portland scored six unanswered runs to capture a 10-4 victory over Tucson on Tuesday night.

Tucson jumped out to a big lead by posting four runs in the third inning. Tim Raines, Jr. lead off the inning with a double to left and was brought in by a Jamie D'Antona double to right. Josh Whitesell had an RBI single, while Jesus Merchan brought in the third run of the inning with a double of his own. The last run of the inning came on a ground out to shortstop which allowed Whitesell to score.

The Beavers came back in the next inning and tied the game with a four run inning of their own. Portland scored all of their runs in the inning with two outs. Justin Huber got things started with a double to center scoring Paul McAnutly and Chip Ambres. Shawn Wooten and Shawn Estes brought in the last two runs with RBI singles apiece.

Chip Ambres gave Portland their first lead of the game with a solo shot to center in the top of the fifth inning to make it 5-4. The Beavers extended their lead in the eighth and ninth innings scoring a total of five runs to secure the victory.

The Sidewinders will travel to Salt Lake to play the Bees in a five game series starting on Wednesday at 6:05 PM. RHP Billy Buckner (5-9, 4.89) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Anthony Ortega (2-0, 2.37) will start for the Bees. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:55 p.m.
