PORT HURON, Mich. - Jamie Carroll's goal with 54 seconds remaining in the first period proved to be the difference as Port Huron posted a 1-0 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder before 716 people at McMorran Arena in International Hockey League action Wednesday.
It marked only the third time this season the PrairieThunder has been shutout and extended the team's losing streak to eight this season against the IceHawks and 12 over the last two years.
The same two teams meet again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Port Huron leads the league with a 30-16-4-1 record (65 points). Bloomington, which has lost only four times in its last 13 games, has a 22-24-1-3 record (48 points).
Carroll's goal was assisted by Ian Turner and Kris Vernarsky. The IceHawks owned a 28-25 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams were unsuccessful on two power play attempts as each team had only four minutes in penalties.
Port Huron rookie goaltender Ryan Moir earned the victory, while Bloomington's Jason Wolfe suffered only his second loss in seven games. He has a 4-2-0-1 mark.
Thursday's game was originally scheduled for Friday, but changed to accommodate a concert date at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tickets for Friday's game will be honored Thursday.
