Mior Makes 25 Saves To Blank PrairieThunder 1-0 At McMorran Arena

PORT HURON, MI - Port Huron Icehawks goalie Ryan Mior turned away 25 shots on Wednesday to earn his third shutout of the season and lead his team to a 1-0 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder at McMorran Arena. Mior is now an impressive 5-1-1-1 this season with three home shutouts in just eight total starts.

With the win, the first place Icehawks boost their International Hockey League record to 30-16-4-1 with 65 points and take a three point lead over second place Muskegon. The Icehawks also extend their home unbeaten streak to six games. The PrairieThunder fall to 22-24-1-3 and remain in fifth place with 48 points.

The Icehawks remain undefeated versus the PrairieThunder this season. They are now 8-0-0-0 in the season series and have won the last 12 meetings between the teams, dating back to last season.

The only goal of the contest came late in the first period when Jamie Carroll scored on assists from Kris Vernarsky and Ian Turner at 19:06. The game then became a defensive battle led by Mior and PrairieThunder goalie Jason Wolfe. Wolfe stopped 27 of 28 total shots, including 21 shots over the last two periods of play.

Both teams were 0-2 on the power play in a quiet game that saw just four minor penalties and a total of eight penalty minutes.

The Icehawks and PrairieThunder will wrap up a mini-series this weekend with games at Bloomington on Thursday and Saturday. The Icehawks then travel to Kalamazoo next Wednesday before returning home to take on Bloomington twice more next weekend.

Only three other coaches in Port Huron professional hockey history have won 100 games on home ice.
