Port Huron Flags News Release

Port Huron, MI- The Port Huron Flags', the community owned, nonprofit member club of the United Hockey League, will soon be featured by nationally syndicated hockey authority insidehockey.com.

During a conference call scheduled by Flags' Director of Marketing and Merchandising Sherri Matusz, five members of the Flags organization spoke with insidehockey.com reporter Kevin Greenstein on the makings of professional hockey's first community owned, nonprofit team, The Port Huron Flags.

"There isn't another team in all of hockey, actually in all of sports, like the Port Huron Flags," said Matusz. "The passion of our fans has brought something here that needs to be shared and deserves to be celebrated!"

Flags' President Dan Isenberg, General Manager Herb Hammond, Head Coach Paul Willett, CEO Charlie Barrett, Public Relations Associate Nicole Noel and Matusz drew upon their experiences to illustrate the enthusiasm surrounding the team during the conference call interview on Tuesday.

Matusz sparked the interest of Greenstein in an email she sent that explained the unique circumstances through which the Port Huron community has guided their team into un-chartered territory.

Greenstein said it was the community element that sparked his interest in The Flags.

"The corporate influence on franchises and teams in the professional arena has lead to a ‘disconnect' between the teams and the communities that support them," said Greenstein. "It sounds like the Port Huron Flags have a very special something in the making."

Greenstein's article will be featured this week on www.insidehockey.com. Greenstein intends to write a follow-up article after The Flags' home opener on October 21st.
