Wenatchee, WA. - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons benefitted from a penalty call late in regulation, scoring early in overtime to defeat the Wenatchee Wild 4-3 Saturday night, in front of 3,322 at the Town Toyota Center.
Port Huron opened the scoring 60 seconds into the first period, on an unassisted goal by Noah Batis, for a 1-0 Fighting Falcons lead. Batis scored again, this time on the power play, off assists from Vito Aluia and Niko Coffman. The goal, at 4:25, put Port Huron on top, 2-0. The Wild would get one back on a power play goal, as Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) popped home a rebound. Parker Tuomie (Biemerhaven, Germany) and Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, Nevada) assisted at 9:50, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Fighting Falcons regained their two-goal lead early in the second, on a goal by Logan Lambdin. Reed Scahill drew the lone assist at 1:33, putting Port Huron up 3-1. Christian Salvato (La Verne, California) scored on a blast from the left point, just shy of the midway point of the second. The assist went to Mike Coyne (Kenmore, New York) at 9:43, drawing Wenatchee to within one, at 3-2. The Wild would tie the game soon after, as Tuomie scored a power play goal, rolling in off the left wing and backhanding a shot top shelf. Harris assisted at 12:47, tying the game 3-3.
Wenatchee outshot the Fighting Falcons 14-8 in the third period, but neither team was able to light the lamp and the game went to overtime, tied 3-3.
Port Huron got a power play goal early in the extra session to win it. Lambin scored unassisted at 1:07 and the Fighting Falcons skated off with the 4-3 win. "That was a tough one to take" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "Felt like a point was stolen from us tonight, very proud of our effort. Two times we battled back from being down two, proud of the effort, we deserved a better fate."
