Port Huron Defeats Bloomington PrairieThunder 5-3

PORT HURON Mich. - Port Huron erupted for three goals during a 3-minute, 47-second spree in the third period to earn a 5-3 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder in International Hockey League action Tuesday at McMorran Arena.

The loss was the third straight for the PrairieThunder as it saw its record drop to 4-5 and under .500 for the first time this season. Port Huron improved to 5-5. The teams meet again Friday at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Jon Booras had given the PrairieThunder a 3-2 lead 27 seconds into the third period on an unassisted goal after Port Huron had moved to a 2-0 advantage in the first two periods.

Then, the IceHawks took off as Jeremy Tucker scored Port Huron's second power play goal of the game with 12:37 remaining off assists from Jeff Zehr and Kris Vernarsky to tie the game.

Port Huron took the lead for good 80 seconds later on Jamie Carroll's second goal of the game of assists from Nick Lindberg and Zehr. The third goal in the spree came 83 seconds later from Kenny Bowman with an assist to Jason Selleke.

Port Huron took a 2-0 lead after the first two periods with goals in each period.

Carroll scored 2:18 into the game on a power play goal with an assist to Jamie Lovell.

The IceHawks' second goal came from Lindberg with 14:47 remaining in the second period off assists from Zehr and Carroll.

The PrairieThunder battled back to even the game at 2-all on goals by Don Parsons with 4:26 remaining in the second period and a break-away goal by Christian Ban with 1:18 left in the period. Brett Holmberg and Tomo Hafner had solo assists on each goal.

Port Huron enjoyed a 39-27 advantage in shots on goal and was successful on 2 of 5 power plays. The IceHawks had only two minutes in penalties to the PrairieThunder's 10. Bloomington had one unsuccessful power play attempt.

Larry Sterling earned the victory for Port Huron in net by stopping 24 of 27 shots. Bloomington's Scott Fankhouser took the loss with 34 saves on 39 shots.
