Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks became the third IHL team to wrap up a 2010 Turner Cup Playoff berth when they beat the Bloomington PrairieThunder 3-2 Saturday night at US Cellular Coliseum. The win also made it three straight seasons with at least 40 wins for Port Huron. With just nine games to play in the regular season, the Icehawks are still within striking distance of the second-place Fort Wayne Komets for home-ice advantage in the first round.
The Icehawks return home to McMorran Arena for games Tuesday against Bloomington and Friday against Quad City before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday for a big matchup with the Komets. Friday will be the last time the Icehawks take on an opponent with a better record than their own in the regular season. Tuesday will be the third game between the Icehawks and PrairieThunder in four days after Bloomington hosted Port Huron Saturday and Sunday night.
Port Huron earned just two points in three games last week, losing in Dayton Friday before their playoff-clinching win Saturday. Sunday, Bloomington earned their first regulation home win against the Icehawks since January, 2008. The Icehawks were outshot 117-90 over the weekend.
Heading into this week's action, Port Huron is in third place in the IHL standings at 40-23-0-4 with 84 points. Fort Wayne is four points ahead in second place at 42-20-1-3. If the current standings hold up, the Icehawks and Komets would face off in the first round of the playoffs, with Fort Wayne holding home-ice advantage.
Snapped Streak: Derek Patrosso had his 11-game point streak snapped when he was held scoreless in Dayton Friday night. During the streak, Patrosso tallied five goals and ten assists. Patrosso did score on Saturday and Sunday, and at 65 points (28g, 37a) he is just one point behind Mickael Bedard for the Icehawks points lead. Patrosso leads Port Huron with 1.05 points per game.
Who's House: Sunday night was the first time the Icehawks lost in regulation at US Cellular Coliseum in 18 games. Bloomington's last regulation victory over Port Huron at home came on January 12, 2008. In the history of the new IHL, Port Huron is 16-3-1-2 on the road against Bloomington.
Goaltender Offense: Goalie Adam Russo earned an assist on Port Huron's lone goal Friday night vs. Dayton. Russo has four assists this season and leads all IHL goaltenders in points. Over the weekend, Russo made his 1000th save of the season. Russo is in the top three in games played (41), wins (21) and saves (1025) among IHL goalies.
Ticket Packages: The Icehawks are offering two great discount packages for home games during the 2009-10 season. Family Four Packs are available now for all home games, while Deuces Wild Packages are on sale for all weekday games.
Family Four Packs include four tickets, four hot dogs, and four small fountain drinks for just $44.
