
Komets Home For Two This Week; Gems Visits Thursday, Icehawks Here Saturday

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets completed week 24 maintaining second place in the IHL after collecting three points in three games last week. The Komets will enter the last three weeks of the season with a 42-20-1-3 record for 88 points trailing first-place Muskegon by seven points with one game in hand and 10 games remaining.
The Komets started last week with a 4-1 setback at Muskegon Friday and recovered with a 5-1 win at Dayton Saturday. Sunday the Komets suffered a 5-4 shootout loss at Flint after rallying from a 4-1 deficit with three unanswered goals in the third period to force overtime.
This week the Komets will begin the final month of the regular season hosting the Dayton Gems on Thursday at 7:30pm. The Komets lead the series 9-3-0-0. However, the Komets are even with Dayton on Coliseum ice at 2-2-0-0. The Gems will host Muskegon Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Thursday.
Friday the Komets return to Flint to face the Generals at 7:30pm. Flint has won the last three meetings with Fort Wayne and is 8-2-1-0 in their last 11 games. It will be the Komets' sixth and final trip to Flint this year where the Generals are 4-0-0-1 against the Komets after winning the last four straight encounters. Flint will host Bloomington Wednesday before facing the Komets Friday.
Saturday the Komets return home to host Port Huron at 7:30pm. The Icehawks are chasing the Komets for second place and trail Fort Wayne by four points entering the week. Port Huron will host Bloomington Tuesday and welcome Quad City Friday before making the trip to Fort Wayne Saturday. The Icehawks are 3-2-0-0 in their last five games after splitting a two-game series at Bloomington over the weekend. Saturday will be the last visit of the regular season by Port Huron. The Komets are 3-2-0-0 against the Hawks on Coliseum ice and an even 5-5-0-0 overall.
Road warriors.....the Komets were the first team in the IHL to hit 20 road wins with a 5-1 victory at Dayton Saturday. It's the fourth straight year that the Komets have reached 20 wins on the road and their sixth time out of the last seven seasons.
Goodbye March..the Komets registered a 9-4-0-1 record to gain 19 points in 14 games for a.679 winning percentage for the busiest month of the season. Colin Chaulk led the Komets during the month with seven goals, 10 assists and 17 points while posting a team-high plus-15 and appearing in all 14 games. Goalies Tim Haun and Nick Boucher shared the action evenly with Haun serving 421:47 earning a 5-2-0-0 record and 1.99 goals-against average. Boucher tallied a 4-2-0-1 record, 1 shutout and a 2.28 goals-against average in 420:43 of play.
Hello April...the Komets will finish the season with 10 games in the first 18 days of April; seven at home and three on the road. The month starts with the Komets skating three games in three nights this weekend and four games in five nights next week including three home games in five nights April 7 through 11. The Komets complete the regular season playing three games in three nights on the final weekend of the season.
Huck hits 100, Drouin skates 800th game..David Hukalo (RW) notched his 100th career goal Sunday at Flint and P.C. Drouin (LW) skated his 800th career game Sunday.
Streaking Komets...Matt Syroczynski (LW) has a five-game point-scoring streak (5 goals, 3 assists) and Guy Dupuis (D) has a three-game goal-scoring streak (3 goals).
Season Ticket Exchange Night Thursday.....Hey season ticket holders! Hang on to those unused tickets. The Komets feature several Season Ticket Exchange Nights throughout the season and this Thursday is another one. Any unused ticket from a previously scheduled Komet home game can be exchanged at the Coliseum Ticket Office for a ticket to this Thursday's Komet game against the Dayton Gems at 7:30pm.
Komets to make 50th playoff appearance.....the Komets will be in the playoffs for the 50th time in their 58-year history. When the Komets defend their back-to-back Turner Cup championship titles later this month it will be their 43rd appearance as a member of the IHL. The Komets also qualified for seven UHL playoff runs.
"Bus Stuff" coming......the Komets, Citilink, IPFW and Ivy Tech are proud to announce the annual "Bus Stuff" will take place at the Komet home games Wednesday, April 7 against Muskegon and Friday, April 9 when Dayton visits. Fans are asked to donate non-perishable food items at both games. All proceeds will go to the Community Harvest Food Bank.
Komets Open House April 14.....the Komets have announced that their annual Season Ticket Holder Open House will be held on Wednesday, April 14 from 6pm-8pm at the Coliseum. Season ticket holders are invited to watch an open Komet practice session from 6pm-6:45pm with the coaches explaining the drills. The practice will be followed with a 15-minute question and answer session. There will be an open skate with Komet players from 7pm-7:45pm with photo and autograph opportunities.
