Burlington, NC- The Princeton Blue Jays jumped over Burlington's first two pitchers, and were able to hang on for the 12-2 victory, taking the first two games of the series. Robinson Yambati is hit with his fifth loss of the season, after going just two thirds of an inning and surrendering six runs. Noah Syndergaard earns the win.
In the top of the first, after three straight singles to load the bases, Chris Hawkins tripled to clear the bases. He would score on an error by Kenny Swab, who was trying to catch a runner at second stealing, but air-mailed the throw into center field. Yambati would leave the game after facing nine batters, in favor of Malcom Culver. On the reliever's first pitch, Daniel Arcilia homered to right, as the 10th batter of the inning to make it 8-0.
In the bottom of the first, Burlington would put a run up. Justin Trapp would single with one out, and score on a sacrifice fly to left from Michael Antonio. The top of the second saw Bluefield add three more runs, all coming on a triple from Eli Boike with the bases loaded. The visitors would add another run in the third, scoring from an error from Michael Antonio.
Corey Hall and Rudy Brown would keep the Blue Jays off the board the rest of the way. Burlington would tally a second run, with an RBI single from Derek Hamblen, knocking in his first career run. The Royals would leave the bases loading in the inning, and nine men on in the game.
Snydergaard tallied his fourth win of the season, allowing a run on two hits, and striking out five. Kenllie Santana went an inning and two thirds, giving up a run and four walks, in addition to two hits, with four strikeouts. Myles Duvall tossed the final two and a third innings, surrendering one hit, while striking out three.
Yambati gave up seven earned runs on six hits in two thirds of an inning. The second pitcher of the night for Burlington, Culver, allowed four earned runs to cross the plate, five overall. The Blue Jays recorded three hits of the reliever, who walked four. Hall struck out four batters, and allowed just one hit in four and one third innings, while Brown gave up two hits in two innings.
Melvin Garcia was the only Bluefield starter to not record a hit. Art Charles, Leo Hernandez, and Chris Hawkins each recorded two hits, while Hawkins and Eli Boike each knocked in three runs. Arcila's home run in the first was his only hit of the night, and his fifth of the season.
Of the four Royals to record a hit, Trapp was the only batter to have more than one. The second baseman went 2-for-4, with a triple and a run scored. Lane Adams, Antonio, and Brooks each had a hit in the second-worst home loss this season.
