Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release
The Winston-Salem Polar Twins finished their season-opening, five-game homestand Sunday, winning two out of five at LJVM Annex, including a 1-2 record during their second weekend of competition.
Friday night the Twins took on the Knoxville Ice Bears, dropping that game by a final score of 5-4 following a two-hour delay caused by bus problems for Knoxville. Polar Twins forward Brett Cross scored two goals in the game but suffered a broken ankle in the third period during an altercation with Knoxville's Curtis Menzul. Cross is expected to be out of the lineup for three months.
Saturday the Twins rebounded to defeat the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-3. Bill Cass scored the game-winner with less than three minutes left in the contest to complete the comeback win for Winston-Salem. Graham Dearle, Richard Gustafsson, and Trevor Karasiewicz also scored for the Polar Twins.
On Sunday, cross-state rivals the Fayetteville FireAntz made their first appearance at LJVM Annex this season. The FireAntz came out the victors by a 3-1 final, scoring two on the power play. Graham Dearle had the only tally for Winston-Salem in the contest.
