Polar Twins crushed by Huntsville

[HUNTSVILLE, AL] - Dan Buccella recorded a hat trick and James Patterson and Aaron Lewis both added two goals as the Huntsville Havoc beat the Winston-Salem Polar Twins 9-3 Thursday night in front of 1,659 fans.

Jeff Dams and Mike Degurse both had one goal each for the Havoc (9-8). Derek McKinlay, Jason deGuehery and Patterson all had three assists while Lewis had two. Steve Howard, Shawn Breaker, Matt Carmichael and Dams all had one assist each.

Marcus Willy, Rhett Dudley and Troy Ilijow all scored goals for the Polar Twins (5-14) while Greg Rollins had two assists and Cam Werfelman, Steve Lajoie and Ilijow all had one each.

Carmicheal got the win stopping 16 of 19 shots while Jomar Cruz took the loss by allowing all nine goals and stopping 39 of 48 shots.

Huntsville entered the game last in the Southern Professional Hockey League in power play conversion but finished the night 4-of-7. Winston-Salem was 1-of-2.

The Polar Twins play two on the road this week, stopping in Huntsville on Thursday and in Jacksonville on Friday, before heading home to host the Macon Trax for the first time this season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's game will feature the first ever Polar Twins Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed toy to the game that can be thrown on the ice following the first Polar Twins goal. Everyone that brings a stuffed toy will receive $2 off the regular ticket price. All toys will be collected by the United States Marine Corps Reserve and donated to Toys for Tots.
