Playoff Seeding on the Line as Fighting Falcons Wrap Up Season At Home

March 27, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, have playoff seeding on the line as they finish the 2012-13 regular season with a trio of home games at McMorran Arena this weekend.

The team will host the Janesville Jets Thursday night before the Michigan Warriors visit for a pair of matchups Friday and Saturday. All games begin at 7 p.m.

Port Huron will take on the Johnstown Tomahawks in the first round of the 2013 Robertson Cup playoffs, but home-ice advantage will be determined this weekend. The Fighting Falcons currently sit in fifth place in the North division, two points behind Johnstown with a game in hand. The Fighting Falcons hold the tiebreaker if the teams end the season with the same number of points.

A weekend sweep would guarantee the Fighting Falcons home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Johnstown finishes their season with a pair of road games against the Jamestown Ironmen. If Johnstown loses once this weekend, Port Huron would clinch home ice for round one with just two wins. If Johnstown is swept, Port Huron would need just one win.

Despite the fact that they go in to the weekend in fifth place, the Fighting Falcons would only finish the season in fifth place if they go winless this weekend.

Fans can bid on a game-worn Fighting Falcons home jersey throughout this weekend's games. Opening bid will be set at just $100 for these collector's items. 2013-14 season ticket packages will be on sale throughout the weekend as well. The first 25 fans to purchase two or more full-season ticket packages at just $175 each will receive a free game-worn road jersey following the end of this season.

The Fighting Falcons have won three of their last four matchups with the Janesville Jets, including a pair of victories in Janesville last weekend, where the Fighting Falcons clinched a playoff berth. Janesville is currently battling for the sixth and final playoff spot in the North division, as they hold a one-point lead over the Springfield Jr. Blues with one game in hand.

Family four packs are available for Thursday night's game against Janesville. For just $30, fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas. Proceeds from Thursday's 50/50 drawing will benefit fundraising efforts for Collin Vani, a Port Huron High School sophomore who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer.

Port Huron has won its last five games against the Michigan Warriors, who have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Fighting Falcons will hold a brief awards ceremony before Friday night's game, honoring this season's winners of their Community Service, Rookie of the Year, Fan Favorite and Most Valuable Player awards.

Fighting Falcons' players graduating from junior hockey will be honored with their parents and billet parents before Saturday's game, and a live auction for Fighting Falcons game-worn home jerseys will take place after the game. The team will remain on the ice for an autograph session immediately following the jersey auction.

All tickets to Fighting Falcons home games are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office for just $7. 2013-14 season tickets are also on sale now for the low price of just $175. For more information, call the Fighting Falcons front office at (810) 966-3800.
