ALBANY ATTACK CLINCH TOP SEED
Philadelphia Clinches Sixth Seed; Montreal Loses Game and Playoff Spot
The Albany Attack capped off their regular season with a 14-6 home victory over the Montreal Express. With the win, Albany (14-2) clinches home field advantage throughout the 2002 Champions Cup Playoffs.
The outcome also gives the sixth and final playoff spot to the Philadelphia Wings (8-8), and ends the playoff hopes for the Montreal Express (8-8). Philadelphia wins a three-way tiebreaker with Montreal and the Buffalo Bandits (8-8) for the final playoff spot, based on their record vs. common opponents played an equal number of times. All three clubs played Rochester twice during the season. Philadelphia split with Rochester (1-1), while Montreal and Buffalo both went 0-2 vs. the Knighthawks.
The Albany win also means Rochester (13-3) becomes the fourth seed, as Albany wins the Central Division, and Rochester has the best record among non-divisional winners. Albany won its final ten games of the regular season to hold off the surging Knighthawks, winners of their last seven in a row.
