Paul Gait wins scoring title

(New York City)-- Washington Power forward Paul Gait has claimed the National Lacrosse League scoring title for the 2001-2002 season. Gait finished the regular season 53 goals and 61 assists on the season, totalling 114 points to lead all NLL scorers.

Gait, who earlier this year announced his retirement at seasons end, helped lead the Power to the Eastern Division title with a 9-7 record and a spot in this years NLL Champions Cup Playoffs.

In his famed career, Gait has won three Player of the Month awards, six Player of the Week honors, and ten All-Pro selections. In addition he has been a member of three separate championship clubs during his career.

Finishing second and third respectively behind Gait in scoring was twin brother Gary with 112 points and Rochester forward John Grant with 105 points. Paul Gait shares the goal scoring title with Vancouver Ravens forward Chris Gill (53). Paul and Gary Gait each finished the season with 61 assists, tied for second place behind Albany Attack forward Josh Sanderson, whose 68 assists set a new single-season record.
