Playoff Race for Cutters
August 21, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release
WEST HAVEN, CT - When the Cutters and the Brockton Rox open their three-game series Tuesday night at Historic Yale Field, the push for the playoffs will officially begin as the two teams are currently tied for the league's top wild card spot with just 14 regular season games remaining.
The North Shore Spirit have already secured the league's top playoff seed by capturing the season's first half title. The No. 2 seed will go to the season's second half winner with spots three and four belonging to the next two teams with the best overall record.
The Can-Am League playoffs begin Sept. 6 when a best-of-five series begins in the home park of both the first and second half winners.
Should the Spirit, who hold a 1.5 game lead in the season's second half, win both halves, the additional three post season spots will be awarded to the teams with best overall record.
The Cutters have played the Rox 10 times this year, splitting the season series 5-5.
