Playoff bound Cyclones wrap up SPHL regular season with two road games
The Pee Dee Cyclones will tune-up for the SPHL playoffs with two final regular season road games this week. The Clones will be in Florida on Friday night and Columbus on Saturday night to wrap up the 2005-06 regular season. Pee Dee will finish the regular season in sixth place but have qualified for the post-season. The Cyclones most likely opponent, the Knoxville Ice Bears, need one more victory or one more Columbus loss to clinch first place. Knoxville plays Jacksonville at home on Thursday while Columbus travels to Fayetteville.
SPHL Playoff Roster Deadline
All playoff bound teams must designate their playoff rosters by 5:00PM Eastern today (Monday 3/13). The Cyclones will release their final playoff roster later today.
Upcoming games & promotions:
Friday, March 17th @ Florida Seals (7:35PM). Ninth, and final, meeting of the year with the Seals who lead the season series 6-0-2. The Seals defeated the Cyclones last Friday night 4-1 at the Florence Civic Center. Follow the action at www.pointstreak.com.
Saturday, March 18th @ Columbus Cottonmouths (7:30PM). Eighth, and final, meeting of the year with the Cottonmouths who lead the season series 5-1-1. Follow the action @ www.pointstreak.com.
Cyclones and the SPHL Playoffs
Once the Knoxville Ice Bears "officially" clinch first place in the SPHL regular season, the entire first round playoff schedule will be finalized. As of now, the first two games of the best of five series will be played at the Florence Civic Center on Friday & Saturday, March 24th & 25th @ 7:35PM. Cyclones Season Ticket Party & Playoffs Pep Rally
The Cyclones staff, management, and players invite all season ticket holders to our "Season Ticket Holders" party & playoffs pep rally which will be held on Wednesday, March 22nd from 5:30PM-7:00PM at Ebenezer Park off of Ebenezer Road in West Florence. Cyclones Player Notes:
Forward Edan Welch continues to lead the team in scoring with 35 goals & 30 assists for 65 points in 54 games. Welch's 35 goals also lead the team in that category. Forward Chris Murphy leads Pee Dee in penalty minutes with 226 minutes in 50 games.
Defenseman Mike Kirby is expected back in the Cyclones line-up after being on injured reserve for the past thirty days. Injured Cyclones J.F. Picard & Rob Kapuscinski are also expected back in the line-up this weekend. Forward Derrell Upton remains day to day with an upper body injury. Eric Naud & Chris Murphy, who both missed games last weekend due to SPHL suspensions, will be back in the line-up this weekend. However defenseman Josh Vanderbreggen and Head Coach Mark Richards will remain suspended through the rest of the regular season. Assistant Coach Chris Duggan will again be behind the bench this weekend in Florida & Columbus. "Emergency players" Marcus Willy, Joey Leccese, Mike DeCarle, and Joey Mullen (cousin of the former NHLer) have been placed on waivers, although Leccese may be re-activated this weekend.
