Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The 9-2 Florida Firecats host the 7-5 Green Bay Blizzard this Saturday July 1st at Germain Arena with playoff implications on the line. If the Firecats defeat the Blizzard, they will clinch a playoff berth and be guaranteed of at least one home game in the second season.

"It's the first step towards our ultimate goal of winning a championship," said team President and GM Chris Vallozzi. "Our fans have always been tremendous and their support means a lot to our guys, they deserve to have a chance to see us play in the post season."

The Firecats are 5-0 at home so far this year and 12-1 in the regular season the past two seasons combined. The friendly confines of Germain Arena have also been good to the "˜Cats in the playoffs as well, where the team is 3-1 all-time.

"There is still a lot of football to be played, but it would be nice to get a win Saturday and put it in our back pocket, the way the division race is shaping up it might come down to the last game," Vallozzi added. "We've won the division the last 2 years and we obviously want to make it 3."

The Firecats are one game up in the loss column against the Memphis Xplorers (9-3), but Memphis doesn't have a bye week till the last week of the regular season.

Divisional record doesn't factor into post-season seeding so Florida must finish ahead of Memphis in terms of overall record because the Xplorers hold the tie breaker in the series due to margin of victory stemming from their win all the way back in week 2 of the season, the Firecats 1st game of the year.

If the playoffs were to start today the Firecats would own home field advantage throughout the post season. The divisional winners receive a 1st round bye.
