Players and host families meet at 2004 Host Family Picnic
May 9, 2004 - Frontier League (FL)
Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond Roosters players reported for spring training on Friday, May 7th and began their day with one of the most important aspects of their summer with the Roosters...meeting their host family.
Richmond Rooster GM Deanna Beaman welcomed everyone to Richmond as she introduced the staff and the new host family coordinator to the group gathered on the Party Deck at McBride Stadium on what turned out to be a rather chilly evening to greet everyone.
Included among the staff introduced was Roosters trainer Theresa Wright-Reid (seated in the foreground of this picture), who demonstrated that the dedication of the staff knows no bounds. It was her wedding day, and she took time out to meet the players as they arrived for spring training and the first player meeting. Also introduced was the new host family coordinator for the 2004 season, Deresa Chappell.
The Richmond Roosters staff spent a large part of the gathering thanking and praising the host families. These fantastic people invite Roosters players into their homes for the summer in order to make it possible for these guys to continue their baseball careers. Without their help, most of the players could not afford to make it through the summer. To each and every one of you, including those serving this year and in years past, who have opened their home and their hearts for our players, we can not thank you enough. Your service to these players and the Richmond Roosters is immeasurable.
