Player Profile: Jonathan Kopacka

August 30, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

A native of Metamora, Michigan, Kopacak began his affiliation with the North American Hockey League since the fall of 2009 when he played with the Motor City Metal Jackets U16 team in the North American Prospects Hockey League.

Kopacka completed his first full season in the NAHL with the Fighting Falcons in 2012-13, finishing with a plus seven rating in 55 games in Port Huron. The defenseman has a great affinity for the Blue Water Area, where he is currently working to return to the team at this week's training camp.

After playing at countless rinks throughout his career, Kopacka is proud to have made himself at home at McMorran Arena.

"McMorran Arena sets Port Huron apart from other places I've played," said Kopacka. "The fact that we get to play in a barn with all this history is great. It's one of the greatest junior hockey arenas in the country, and not many junior teams get to play in a place like this."

The 20-year-old lived with a billet family in the area last year, saving him a long commute to and from practice during the week.

"I believe that we have the best billets out of any junior program here in Port Huron," he said. "My billet family helped me in so many ways last season. They truly have become part of my family and I'm proud and grateful to have become part of theirs."

Like most players in the NAHL, Kopacka hopes to parlay his success on the ice to a Division 1 NCAA commitment for the future.

Kopacka doesn't have any major pre-game superstitions, but likes to have the same breakfast and pregame meal before every contest. Like his teammate Bryan Yim, he puts his equipment on one side at a time.

Whether you call him Paps, Johnny, Packs or one of many other nicknames he's earned throughout his hockey career, Jon Kopacka appreciates your support.

"Port Huron really is a great city, and there is nothing better than playing in front of all our Falc fans."
