Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
When the Port Huron Fighting Falcons return to action at training camp next week, a familiar face will return to the Blue Water Area.
Bryan Yim, who started his first season of junior hockey with the Fighting Falcons last season will return to the team after finishing the 2012-13 campaign with the Indiana Ice of the Tier 1 USHL. Yim is as excited to return to the Fighting Falcons as they are to have him back after they drafted him in the third round of the 2013 NAHL Draft.
Yim's first season of junior hockey was a memorable one. "My favorite memory from last season was scoring my first and second junior hockey goal in the same game, and earning the first star of the game," Yim said. "It was just a huge confidence boost for me to get that first goal and I think my season took off for the better after that."
In 43 games with the Fighting Falcons, Yim scored eight goals and 16 assists before earning a call-up to the USHL. The Farmington, MI native tallied five more points in 16 games in Indiana to close out his first season of junior competition.
The 19-year-old attributes his success last year to his surroundings.
"The guys from last year's team honestly made it such an easy transition to junior hockey. It was my first time leaving home and staying with a billet family, and they were amazing,: Yim said. "The fans were great too. You don't really have a fan base in AAA hockey besides parents, so to have people who love to watch us play every weekend and cheer us on is a really cool thing," he added.
A return to the Fighting Falcons also means a return to McMorran Arena, where Yim found success long before junior hockey arrived in the Blue Water Area.
"I won Silver Sticks at McMorran Arena when I was younger, so I have some great memories playing here," said the forward.
Yim is looking forward to returning to the Blue Water Area for what the area offers off the ice as well. "My favorite thing about Port Huron is that there are a ton of things to do. With the mall, the movie theaters, all the shops and restaurants downtown, the gym, the baseball diamonds and the bowling alleys and everything else around there is just an endless amount of things to do in Port Huron.
Bryan doesn't consider himself too much of a superstitious person, but he does have a pre-game routine that he sticks to very closely: "I always put the left side of everything on first. Left knee pad, left sock, left skate, etc."
Bryan, or as he's been known since mini-mites, "Yimmer," aspires to play division one college hockey. The Fighting Falcons strive to help get him there after sending a number of his teammates from last season to college programs.
