Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Pittsfield, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts' four-game winning streak ended Saturday night with a 6-1 loss to the Pittsfield Suns at Wahconah Park.
The loss drops Worcester to 12-8 while Pittsfield moves to 10-11.
Pittsfield did much of its damage during a five-run fifth inning. An RBI single by Caleb Shpur (Endicott) scored Sean McGee (Northeastern). Shpur would come in to score on another single by Drew Metzdorf (UMass Boston). Metzdorf and Anton Lazits (Columbia) came home on an error, and Brennan Hyde (Nichols) scored when Alex Gabauer (Penn) singled him home, giving the Suns a 5-0 lead.
The Bravehearts would get a run back in the top of the sixth, when Brandon Grover (Salve Regina) scored on a double-steal. That would be all the scoring for Worcester, however.
Pittsfield added another run in the bottom of the seventh when Gabauer scored on another error.
Suns starter Andrew Geiger (Mount St. Vincent) got the win, giving up just one run in seven innings on five hits and a walk while striking out eight. The Bravehearts' Sean Scanlon (Holy Cross) took the loss for Worcester. He went 4.1 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk, striking out six.
The Bravehearts are on the road Sunday afternoon, as they head to New Britain to take on the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35.
