San Angelo Colts News Release
Harlingen, Texas --- Starting pitcher Adam Rowe surrendered just one earned run in seven innings to guide the Colts to a 4-1 Opening Night victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Thursday night at Harlingen Field.
Rowe (1-0) scattered five hits, and forced 13 ground ball outs. The WhiteWings scored their lone run in the second inning, but the Colts responded in the top of the third to even the game at one.
Shortstop Danny Hernandez hit a leadoff double, and advanced to third on a bunt single by third baseman Steve Rinaudo. Right fielder Mike Mobbs then had an RBI ground out that scored Hernandez.
San Angelo took the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh. Rinaudo and centerfielder Oscar Garcia both scored. Then in the eighth, catcher Bubby Williams doubled and scored on a WhiteWings error to give the Colts a 4-1 advantage.
The Colts' pitching was stellar all the way through. Relievers Jeremy Tietze and Alfredo Caballero held the WhiteWings scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Caballero earned his first save of the year.
WhiteWings starter Anthony Bello (0-1) gave up the go-ahead run and suffered the loss. He allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
