Derek Whitmore was selected for the Tom Ebright Award, presented to the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a member of the Portland Pirates, as envisioned by team founder, the late Tom Ebright. Congratulations to Edward Schenks Jr. who was the grand prize winner of the UNUM Challenge after becoming the first person in five seasons to exactly guess the number of shots (728) taken between the Pirates and the Sharks during their 12-game season series. Shirts Off Their Backs

Congratulations to the lucky fans who won the Shirt Off The Back of members of the Pirates during the Pirates regular season finale Sunday against the Springfield Falcons.

Heart Walk 2011

The Pirates invite fans, friends and family members to join our team as a member of the Salty Pete Pacers for the Southern Maine Heart Walk. This family-oriented event blends the benefits of physical activity, community involvement, and personal giving to help raise funds for research and education.

Second year defenseman T.J. Brennan is serving as the Pirates player representative for the Southern Maine Heart Walk. Brennan's grandmother passed away after suffering a heart attack when she was only 49 years old.

Heart disease is killing people from Maine in increasingly frightening numbers. Last year alone, over 4,000 Mainers died from heart disease. That's one in every 330 residents of our state. And more than 25,000 Mainers are living with heart disease. That's one in every 50. Odds are a few of them are people you know. A friend, a family member, a loved one.
