PEORIA (Ill) â Three Pirates players visited the Children's Hospital of Illinois at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center this afternoon.
WR/DB Bobby Jordan, OL/DL Scott Tyrcha and FB/LB Bryan Eakin brought smiles to the faces of about twenty children who are patients in the hospital. The three Pirates toured the G200 wing, visited the children in their rooms and signed autographs.
One special fan was ecstatic to talk with the players. Nathan Lamberson had been looking forward to the Pirates' visit all day. Nathan is an eight grader at Broadmoor Junior High in Pekin. He had been in the hospital since last Thursday to undergo surgery and is looking to head back home either tonight or tomorrow.
"I was so excited when I heard you were coming, and now that you are here, I don't know what to say!"
Once the overwhelming feeling left him, Nathan began reeling question after question to Jordan, Tyrcha and Eakin.
"What positions do you guys play? Where are you from? How old are you? Do you have girlfriends? What is it like playing with the Pirates?"
No news reporter could match the amount of questions asked by Nathan. The players didn't mind; in fact, they enjoyed getting to know him a little better, as well.
The Children's Hospital of Illinois is the third largest pediatric hospital in Illinois and the largest pediatric hospital in downstate Illinois. It has more than 50 exclusive pediatric programs, services and treatments that no other area hospital provides. Children's Hospital has 127 inpatient beds, over 60 physicians in 24 different disciplines, 5,000 annual admissions, 2,300 deliveries, 16,000 pediatric emergency department visits and 25,000 annual outpatient visits.
The Pirates travel to the Quad Cities this weekend to defend the "Ruler of the River" title. The Pirates defeated the Quad City Steamwheelers last June 67-43 in Quad City. The series is tied 2-2.
Seats are still available on the fan bus to Quad City. The fan bus package, $30.00, includes the ticket, t-shirt and cost of the bus. Checks and credit cards are accepted. Call the Pirates office 309-637-7777 to reserve your seat by Wednesday, April 30.
